FitSteps at the Bedford River Festival 2016

Look at my FitSteppers now! They are performing people, performing!  Yes, and  infront of a big crowd after just a few months of doing FitSteps with me. We did a FiSteps dance demo at the Sports Village stage, and we were able to deliver the message we wanted to tell people about FitSteps and how amazing it is to dance. Wish all of my FitSteppers were on stage with us but I’m only allowed a few people to dance with me due to limited space on stage. What I love about my class is the mixture of levels/abilities/ages, and they just go for it. Some of them had background in dance, even a professional dancer, and others never danced at all, and it proved today that what matters most is that you are enjoying what you’re doing. That if you put your heart and focus into something you really love, you will shine in every way. To all my FitSteppers, THANK YOU! I am so PROUD of everyone, not just the ones who performed last week, yesterday and today, but EVERYONE who does my class! xxx

What an amazing weekend indeed!  Boiling hot, but brilliant!

My FitSteps classes in Bedford:

Thursday at Renhold Village Hall, 8pm  (£5 otd)

Friday  at Brickhill Community Centre, 9:am (£5 otd)

My first time to join RACE FOR LIFE this year and it was amazing! I ran 5K and I had the most wonderful time. Meeting people fighting cancer, people who lost their loved ones with cancer, and people simply supporting Cancer Research UK. Thank you to all my amazing friends who sponsored me. I raised £115 in total. I exceeded my target which was £100. Great day indeed! xx

Rocking Amsterdam!

Finally, a few days to spend some time with my hubby. Well not really alone because our girl is with us, but happy enough to have some family time.

The last time I visited Amsterdam was 13 years ago, just before I moved to the UK. I lived just two hours away from Amsterdam.

I missed their famous Patatja Oorlog, chips with satay sauce (or any types of sauces really, but for me, satay sauce is the best).

I’ve been to this City a few times but I never got the chance to visit Anne Frank’s house/museum. We had a great time there, and it’s so different to see where and how she lived. My daughter had a great time and felt so blessed to be there.

We had the chance to meet up with a great friend, Eladio, who happened to be there too in Amsterdam. We got to see him on the cruise ship. He’s the only Filipino singer in the ship. 🙂

We also got to see the world arena touring production of WE WILL ROCK YOU musical, as my hubby works there. We had a party! A fellow Filipino actor, Mig Ayesa, plays the lead Galileo and he’s fantastic!

Exercise to be healthy, not for vanity…

I don’t take classes or go to the gym for vanity. First of all, I love to eat but I don’t just put every yummy cake in my mouth. I try to eat right like cutting FAT, although I admit I eat quite a lot of carbohydrates. I’m Filipino, I love rice. I ate rice since I was a child and I was never obese. I only started gaining weight when I gave birth to my daughter. It has been a yo-yo diet since then as I am not very good in following a diet. In fact I hate the word ‘diet’. Those high protein diets never worked at all, well, just for me. I always crave for rice when I’m eating Filipino food, or even other Asian food. It’s just not fun to eat Asian food without rice. So I found a great option to burn what I eat – exercise!
I exercise almost everyday to burn calories and try to be healthy as possible. I am not aiming to look like that body in the picture. NO! I just want to sweat it all out in this freezing weather, and continue motivating myself to be able to exercise consistently. Of course, I have to thank my husband too for being an inspiration. He’s the one who got me into Body Attack. He’s very good and fit for his age.

During my last blood test, which was ages ago (and I should be doing another one soon), my cholesterol level was quite above the normal but not so bad. I was advised to do exercise to fight high blood pressure and other illnesses. Everyone reaching their 40s should watch what they eat. It’s the stage where we develop illnesses from our bad food intake when we were younger. It’s the warning stage as they say.

I always had an active lifestyle. Taking a class is something I will always love to do. I have Zumba Wii at home, and other exercise DVDs but you know what, it is different when you go to a proper class as you get pushed to work harder.  I love doing Body Combat and Body Attack classes. Not so much into Zumba as a lot of teachers in our area don’t do the right Zumba. It should be fun, it’s a dance exercise, not aerobics. I’ve been to disappointing Zumba classes, so I gave up. Bokwa is another interesting dance exercise from LA, an African inspired dance workout. But it’s not as popular as Zumba yet, and hoping it will boom in my town by 2020. LOL

Bottom line is we can change and make things work for us. It is easy to just stay in bed, watch tv all day, eat junk food and gain weight. It is really up to us to change.

So come on, get your ass out of bed, and exercise! Whether you are walking at the park, biking around, it’s a start. Attend any class and just do it slowly. I felt so much better and even more energetic just a few months of classes. Now I can’t stop! LOL x

The month of LOVE…

Whenever February starts, there is only one thing in mind – Valentine’s Day! 🙂

January has been such a busy month for me, that’s why I haven’t written for awhile. Very grateful though for all the blessings that showered the beginning of my 2013. Hope blessings come your way too as we celebrate Chinese New Year this weekend, Year of the Snake. Well I’m  not Chinese but I do believe in some Chinese traditions. I believe that snake is goodluck. My mum always told me that. Everything in our house was quite Chinese, and red was my Mum’s favorite color. Red is the color of goodluck she said. But for me, it’s the color of LOVE.

I was such in a great mood the other day trying to squeeze in an hour for my fruit shopping at the Saturday market after teaching the whole morning. An hour because after that my daughter had to do another dance class.  So I left her and my hubby at home whilst I do my shopping.

An unexpected incident happened at the car park. I have encountered the most horrid man in our town. I was patiently waiting for a car to move so I can take her spot when suddenly a red car blocked the car I was waiting for to leave. The man had two young girls with him, assuming his daughters. He wasn’t very happy at all as I was blocking his way to turn left. He got out of his car and suddenly shouted at me to move as he needed ‘his’ space to leave the car park. I opened my window, calmly replied and said my piece nicely. I was there first waiting for the car to leave before he started blocking my spot. I asked nicely if he can do a little reverse to give way for the car, so that I can park and then he can make his move. Give and take. But the man refused to reverse his car, got angry instead and called me a ‘bitch’. I was there first and I’m a bitch. Wow! He didn’t move at all. So the car I was waiting for had no choice either but wait till the red car moves. Even if I reverse my car, there was no space for this red car to turn left since it was a very narrow single way. I can’t go forward either as there was another car there. He was really giving me and the other car a hard time.  Finally the car this man blocked was able to move as the car infront of her left. But still there was no space for me to take the spot as he was still there blocking my way. Luckily the car infront of me gave way for me so I can go around the red car, which I did. As I was going around the ‘gentleman’ in the red car, I looked at him, shook my head while he called me names. I gave in for him and I ended up being verbally abused. I felt sorry for this man with two girls witnessing their father’s attitude.

After that incident, I stayed in the car for about 5 minutes just to breath and calm myself down. I closed my eyes and reflected on what just happened. If I was short tempered like this man, I would have ended being hurt by a man like him. I was already being assaulted by a stranger, so I thought what I did was right – to stay calm and just wait for this man to leave. But I also realized that you can’t expect a stranger to be nice all the time. It only shows that there are unhappy people out there who are not loved. To show LOVE, you need to feel loved. A man who is happy won’t act that way esp a father to two young pretty girls. As I got out of the car to get a parking ticket, the woman inside the car I was waiting for to leave was still there. She asked me if I was alright. Now that was nice. I felt relieved that someone saw what happened.

Was my day ruined?  NO! I did what I had to do in town. I went home in one piece, composed and calm. I told the story to my husband and he gave me a big tight HUG.

So, the month of LOVE may not be all about the LOVE you’re expecting but still – spread it, show it, feel it! I know it’s not what you expected to read from the title of this blog. You thought I was going to be nostalgic, right?  Haha Gotcha! 🙂

At the end of the day, it is us who can choose how we want to be in every situation. I chose to be myself, I chose to be safe than sorry, I chose to come home to my beloved family.

Have a nice day! 🙂

My First Indoor Skydiving experience…

I cannot believe what I did today. This is so not moi!  I’m a lady, and I don’t want to die yet? 🙂 Ok, cut the drama Tigress! It’s just skydiving. What?

Yes, I faced my fear people. I did it! But I would rather do an impromptu singing than break my back doing this. Kidding aside, I had a fantabulous time! You should have seen my face as I was putting on my skydiving jacket and helmet, I was not smiling at all. I had to go to the bathroom twice before the flight. But my rock was with me, my hubby! I had some friends with me too who also gave me their all out support. I was so nervous. But the moment I got inside with the instructor, I felt safe and relaxed (???), although I had to tell him not to take me up too high. He laughed. I started smiling actually and posed for the camera in the second round. The feeling of floating in the air, fly free like a bird, or simply being saved from jumping over a bridge. 🙂 You thought I was gonna be nostalgic about this, right?  Well that is not moi! I can be but not in the mood for that right now. I am dizzy and I can’t sleep again.

It was an awesome feeling! Now I feel jetlagged. 🙂 I feel like I just got off the plane after 15 hours straight flight from Asia. It’s weird feeling this way.

Ok, it won’t be a novel for today. I just wanted to share this awesome experience tonight. If you are in the UK, you can either do this in Milton Keynes or Manchester at Airkix Indoor Skydiving.  It is amazing!
